After visiting Ambrosia Cottage I decided to felt and embellish this bag and I just LOVE it! I used manos in rich gold and green and then Darthknitter’s lovely almost boucle style handspun (See it in right panel on the 4th pic. Lovely burgundy :).
Then I embellished it with varigated sock yarn, vintage buttons, czech glass buttons, ribbon and chain. It is lovely from every angle including the bottom. Even prettier in person.
A little knitted closure allows bag to hang as a crescent moon as in photo 1 and a square as in photo 2.
Starting out…. Darthknitter was sweet enough to GIVE me one of her first skeins of handspun. It was so beautiful that I’m afraid I guilted her out of it but I have loved it ever since.
I have been looking for the perfect use for this lovely single skein and decided to pair it with some manos that I had from Simply Fibers make a new project bag.
This bag’s design intrigues me. It is a simple and lovely knit.
Changes to pattern:
- c/o 25 stitches
- c/0 4 stitches for icord bind-off to make a sturdier handle.
- Felted finished bag.
- Embellished bag. Check Ambrosia Cottage group for my inspiration.
- Knitted a bottom reinforcer (felted square the size of bag bottom then tacked it in place inside the bag with plastic mesh sandwiched between the layers.
- Knitted a rectangle out of sock yarn and placed button holes on each end of it for a closure. Buttoned to bag with czech glass buttons.
- Knitted 2 long thin rectangles out of sock yarn and attached each to opposite inside of rims of bag. Folded free ends and tacked a magnet in pocket created. This extra closure allows the bag to be more square in shape.
Thoughts:
I think this bag would be lovely done in a stitch pattern like “my so called scarf” I also think it could easily be lined and embellished. I’ll let you know how I like it after I finish
