…when it’s early December and THIS pattern drops, inspired by Hilma af Klint’s Group X, No. 2, Altarpiece, and your sister’s passion for feminist art history means that you need to find a way to knit it for her before Christmas. (Obvious Update is Obvious: This was a late holiday gift, friends.)
Using the budget-friendlier Palette, as I have quite a bit in my stash. The pattern uses mohair for the spheres, but I’m using Palette for that, as well.
Blocked and pinned per usual, and the pleats continue to look good.
Yardage Note: The pattern calls for 400 yards of Color A (red); however, I used two full balls of Palette (462 yards) and still ran short. Specifically, I had to bind off after Row 30 during the second repeat of Rows 25-40 in Pleated Section 3. If you’re using Palette, definitely spring for another ball; otherwise, I think an additional 100 yards would be enough to finish things off.
Errata: I’ve come across a few errors in the written instructions. To confirm, the charted instructions are correct; it’s just the written ones that contain errors. PPQ has updated the errata page, so definitely refer to that or you follow the charted instructions for these rows.
Chart B
Row 26 (WS): K4 (k4, p1, k3) to 2 stitches… (instead of K5)
Row 33 (RS): …k4, M1L, SM, p1, SM, M1R, k4… (the SM and M1R are flipped)
Row 35 (RS): …SM, M1R, k5, p1, (k7, p1) to last eight… (there needs to be a purl stitch before the repeat, which should be reversed to begin with knit stitches)
Row 40 (WS): …before marker, (k4, p1) three times, k4, (k3, p1, k4) to last… (there need to be four knit stitches before the repeat)
Chart C
