Notes

using size 8/0 silver-lined glass beads from Chromabeader

01:01:15 transition charts completed

03:01:15 tried to tink back 1 row, but the yarn (Violet Green Plato Hand-Dyed Merino 2ply) has felted/gripping as I go, mainly the CDD. Unable to rip back at all, yarn also breaking several times, ended up cutting beads out of the work. Unwilling to use this yarn for something so involved in case it is faulty (breaking) and also in case end product has felted bits in it.

SWITCHED TO: Drops Lace

24:01:15 started again using Drops Lace

There is a mistake between the end of the transition chart and the lace setup chart: there will be one or two stitches extra
- this can be fixed by K2togtbl after the edge stitches but before the beginning of the charted stitches, (and if you have a spare stitch at the end of the 1st row, K2togtbl before the edge stitches) which keeps the pattern in alignment
#This error is known, as I found out in a thread in the designer’s forum from other people who had made this, although it is not mentioned in any pattern notes. The designer does not appear to participate in their forum.#

lace set up chart completed 16:02:14

  • this gave me problems at the start, as a square on the chart is given to the placement of a stitchmarker & isn’t separated from the stitches as in the other charts so guess who kept counting it in the stitch count
  • also, placement of the SM in the chart is not intuitive - you work the last stitch of the row and the 1st of the next row and then place the stitchmarker

27:02:15 completed.

1153 beads used; 28g/224m of yarn remaining of 100g; bind off of 896 st.

On the last 2 rows where it was K5tog, instead I sl3, K2tog, PSSO as it is neater.

over the last 2 rows, there are asymmetries in the stitch placements plus movement of the stitchmarkers as a result; given the error in the pattern/chart earlier, one is reluctant to trust that these asymmetries are intended. They seem to work out.

Also in the last row where it is K5tog, it will involve using stitches from the prior and subsequent sections Ignoring the stitchmarkers. This would have been good to know rather than again second-guessing the pattern.

I did not enjoy making this because once you find an error, any time you come across something unusual eg. asymmetry, stitchmarkers being ignored etc you wonder if it’s you making an error, or an error in the pattern …or the designer failing to include all the information. This is why I gave it such a low star rating and a high difficulty rating.

NB: if you look very very very closely at the last pic, you might be able to see some of the squillions of beads …
