I used 25g / 58m in total. As there are 121 squares in total, 75 background, 46 heart, its about 15g background yarn & 10g for the heart.

I followed the chart as given.

Basic intarsia: On row 8, I added the heart colour (purple) to work tile 3, leaving the background colour (black) dangling. I then picked up yarn from another small ball of black to work the last tile.

For more tricky colour changes, I adapted the intarsia techniques in Laurinda Reddig’s Reversible Color Crochet book.

When you get to the point where you want to change colour and the new yarn isn’t right where you want it:

If yarn is at bottom of stitch, ignoring live loop for a moment, slip stitch new colour along edge of tile to top of stitch. Then, pull the new colour temporary live loop through the ‘real’ live loop.

If yarn is at bottom of ch3, YO with that yarn loosely and then work over it as it lies along chain

Otherwise, always flip yarn forward, complete last stitch with new colour, flip yarn to back, ss, etc this leaves yarn ready to pick up on next row level with top of stitch.
