Love this pattern!

I wanted to use gauge to calculate more flexible sizes for difference weights of yarn. Here’s my thinking:

My gauge was 3.75 stitches/inch & 2.9 ribs/inch.

Al wants his beanie 7.5” tall and about 20” circumference.

Stitch gauge 3.75 spi => ch 28.

Rib gauge 2.9 rpi => a 10-rib wedge will be 3.4” wide. I chose a 10-rib wedge so that the decrease part of the hat would be about 1/3 of the total height (which is pretty standard). So, if I worked 6 10-rib wedges, I’d get a 20.4” circumference. I reduced this just a smidge by working only 8 ribs (5 down + 3 up) on the last wedge to get just under 20” circumference. Al wanted the beanie a little more snug than 20.4” and I wanted to experiment with this fine adjustment. You can’t really notice the slightly shorted shaped section in this single colour hat.

Love this cheap and cheerful acrylic yarn. It’s squishy soft in this stitch and I know it can be thrown in the washing machine without caution.
