There’s something about this brilliant pattern that always draws me back in. Using sew on shank button eyes and glass eyes positioned on the sides off the head really changed the look…more like a real bunny. The head is large in the pattern, so I fiddled with proportions too.
The largest version, the bunny wearing a jaunty neckerchief, was knit using 3.75 needles for the feet and body and 3.5 needles for the head, arms and ears. I added one extra increase and one extra decrease row in the belly. I switched to 3.5 needles for the last decrease row of the body and finished the head. The eyes are plastic 8.5mm sew on shank button eyes sewn straight through the head, eye to eye.
The smallest bunnies, the pair with no arms, were done on 3.25 needles, no pattern changes. They have glass wire loop 8mm eyes and would very much like some arms soon.
The smaller two of the three bigger bunnies pictured were knit with 3.5 needles and have 8.5mm plastic sew on shank button eyes.
Ears: I cast on 11 stitches, knit 10 rows then did k2tog center decreases. When the number of stitches were not the same on either side of the decrease, I knit the larger amount first. For example, k5, k2tog, k4. I also made certain to tighten the side stitches for neater edges.
For all the bunnies, I did not stuff the legs only the feet. I tightened the neck, and did a chin tuck….sewing the chin just a bit down on the belly at the neck. It brings the head downward. For some bunnies, I ran a needle and yarn from the bottom between the legs to the top of the head, back out the bottom and tied off. This shortens the bunny.
These notes are a bit cryptic and mainly for my use in the future. Hopefully, they may be of use to another knitter too.
