A sweet ring of leaves ring the bottom of this dress. A simple off center embroidered star stitch flower adds a pop of color. The bottom of the dress and lower row of leaves are done in darker shades than the top row of leaves and reminder of the dress.
The dress is based on the cap sleeve dress version of the dresses found in Julie Williams Seasonal Dresses pattern linked above.
For this dress, I used a long tail cast on of 90 stitches and knit rows 2-5 on straight needles joining in the round on row 6. The long tail cast on is row 1. The leaves are knit in two directions changing at an offset point on the front of the dress. The first chart on the left should be done for six repeats before following the second chart for another 9 repeats. The third chart shows the repeats and point at which the direction changes. ( The repeats could also be done as 7 of the first chart then 9 of the second which would place the embroidery just right of the center. I did this for the first two versions of the dress as seen in the second photo from the top.)
This design could be done in all one color for the dress and a single color for the leaves. Though the embroidery I did is a start stitch, I used two shades of pink to give a bit more interest. Any design could be embroidered or done in duplicate stitch where the flower is. A pumpkin would be perfect for fall
I followed my usual dress modifications and decreases for a 90 stitch cast on found here
The bunny was knit with sublime extra fine merino dk in caramel on 2.75mm needles.
