Why I’m making this
My best friend Amanda had to go away for weeks without access to communications. Since I will miss her and be thinking of her every day, I decided I might as well give myself a reason to think about her that is productive and positive for both of us.
Amanda loves to cozy up under a blanket, whether it’s at my house or hers. What better present to receive upon returning than a handknit, wonderfully rainbow afghan?
While ordinarily I’m all about supporting my LYS, this project just has so many specific yarns/colours that I gratefully ordered the pre-made Rainbow kit of this directly from KnitPicks. It was a cost-effective and convenient solution.

I have finished the first quarter section of the blanket, slightly under a quarter of the whole project (because there are ~10000 stitches along the border!).

All done! It looks so good! I can’t wait to give it to Amanda this Friday. The only thing better than making beautiful handknit stuff for friends is the feeling one gets watching them open the gift and realize what you’ve made for them.
Final measurements: about 132 cm square (it’s very stretchy, so it’s hard to get a good “flat” reading laid out on my carpet). I washed but did not block.
