My ride-or-die, Amanda, came to stay with me for two weeks this December. She brought her four-month-old with her. She thought she had lost his tuque, so I whipped up one for him quickly—and then she asked for a second, slightly larger one, for him to grow into.

I used yarn that Amanda had purchased years ago when she thought she might take up knitting and then donated to me when she didn’t. I had always intended to make her something with this yarn. I don’t remember what it is, just that it’s a nice, soft bulky.

I adjusted the baby size for the first hat, adding four stitches distributed evenly as two purl stitches between two of the cable motifs. This baby has a big head! The second hat was knitted at the M size.
