This is my first time devising my own pattern from scratch! Previously I improvised mittens to match an Icelandic style hat, but that was merely adjusting an existing pattern.
I intend for this to be a retirement gift for a coworker. I’m not 100% sure if she is retiring at the end of this school year, but better to be prepared. She regularly does sudoku puzzles on her lunch, etc., so when I thought of knitting something for her, sudoku came to mind immediately. At first I contemplated a sudoku-themed blanket, where each square is a separate square I could then seam together—but that just seemed like a lot of work. A pillow provides a nice rectangular surface for the puzzle but will be more easily accomplished.

Finished the first side yesterday!
It has turned out excellently. In hindsight, it might have been nice to make the lines between the 9x9 blocks thicker (but it’s already big enough as it is!).
Going to take a break with another project and then start the second half.

Started this up again last month after nearly 2 and a half years in hibernation!
The second side is done and it looks good.
Now I’m blocking both sides. Then it’s time to figure out how to seam them together and stuff them.

Finished!!
Found this very helpful video that taught me how to use i-cord to seam the two sides of the pillow together. Then I stuffed it with an 18x18 pillow form and grafted the last edge shut.
Now I just have to give it to the retiring colleague!
