Yardage given is for two hot pads.
I worked these at a larger gauge than some previous hot pads I made with the same yarn and hook (exhibit A; exhibit B) by simply crocheting more loosely than I normally would. (I should have just gone up a hook size or two. It would have been easier and both hot pads would have come out the same size. But I digress…) I am amazed by how differently the yarn pooled in comparison. While I’d like to say that the different pooling can be attributed entirely to the gauge, it’s also possible that I started them with different numbers of stitches in my starting chains. They were made about 2 months apart and I didn’t take notes.
From past experience of having this style of hot pad un-origami itself in the wash and then having a very hard time getting it back into its proper shape, I stopped midway through seaming to grab a strand of yarn from the opposite side of the work, effectively tacking the two sides together on the inside at the midpoint. It does not show at all on the outside.
