I am looking forward to knitting this wrap. Putting my current project on hold, I am taking part in the Olan KAL and hope to complete my Olan by June 15.
I already had on hand 3 skeins of BT Loft Thistle that I was going to use for another project and almost a full skein of BT Loft in Postcard left over from Halligarth. When I bought the 2 colours, they were intended for 2 different projects. When I received the yarn I saw how nice they went together and thought later I would look for a project that would combine the 2 colours. Then along came trggrwrnng’s Olan and knew it would be the perfect project to combine the 2 colours.
Used a provisional cast on (shows in blue in the 1st and 4th photo) and will do and Icelandic Bind off as trggrwrnng has done.
May 28, 2015: Working on the second set of stripes. Really a fun pattern. Love seeing the slipped stitches inch their way up the wrap.
When I switch the yarn for the 2 row striping I drop the first colour, leaving it in front, and start knitting with the second colour. It works well with the fingering weight but might not for a heavier yarn. Makes a nice neat edge. Will get closeups when I am further along.
To knit this wrap you will need no more than 1/4 skein of Loft, probably much less, for the CC as the stripes don’t use much yarn. For the MC in Loft you might need more than 2 skeins. In total the original FO took 2.5 skeins, but since the stripes won’t take 1/2 skein, more might be needed for the MC than 2 skeins.
June 6, 2015: Ready to weave in ends and cast off the prov cast on. Will use the Icelandic Bind Off, with thanks to trggrwrnng, for the suggestion of this really nice looking bind off that works so well with garter stitch.
June 7 2015: To do the Icelandic bind-off, I picked up the stitches from the prov cast on with US 4 and bound off with US 8. This is the method I used. The second photo from the top shows the bind-off completed in colour Postcard. It looks like a stripe. This is the same edge that shows the light blue yarn I used for the provisional cast on.
June 8, 2015: Soaked and now gently blocking.
June 10, 2015: Finished!
Easy to follow pattern with nice results. Help quickly available from the designer, Erika Flory, in the kidknits KAL Olan forum.
Loft is such a lovely yarn to knit with. After a soaking it softens up, blooms, and makes a nice light weight, but warm, project for scarves, sweaters etc
