For this project I’m going to double knit it using a KISS F0 loom, 120 peg sides set up as a double knitting board with 5/16” spacers that are “borrowed” from a Cottage Loom. I will be knitting this from end to end instead of from the bottom of the tail up, as per what the written needle knit pattern instructions suggest.

I love this pattern but if I ever do it again it will not be in double knit. I was doing a standard stockinette stitch and was having a hard time figuring out how to add the ribbing at the top that goes around the neck, so I switched to what is called a “Double Sided ZigZag Stockinette”:

I was able to easily work in the “Twisted Double Ribbing Stitch” after switching to the zigzag stockinette:

Binding off wasn’t so easy but I worked off of this video, tweaking it for 2 instead of 3 stitches:

I’m now working on Hedwig’s feathers and have 8 finished and starting on #9. There are a total of 44 feathers, so it’ll be a while yet before I can start adding the feathers and fringe. These feathers are also double knit, btw. Again, I had to do a lot of tweaking to get them to turn out the way I wanted them to, so some mistakes were made in the first few, but not noticeable enough for me to care about.
This shawl is clearly not going to be as fluid as the original needle knit version (flat piece), but it’s still going to look pretty cool nonetheless ;)
I’m not even going to predict a time as to when I’ll finish this all up so I can get pictures taken. As soon as I do that, I jinx myself, lol.
On further thought -- if I ever do decide to do this in double knit again, it will be in the simple brioche stitch where the background will be a different color on both sides…..much easier to add the colored parts than the way I’m doing it now.
