This is a needle knit pattern that I’m doing on a loom ;)
I’m loving this yarn I’m using! I’ve never bought yarn this expensive before….it was originally $27.50 but I got it on sale for 63% off online via Fiesta Yarns, and I bought 2 of them :)
This is supposed to be for my sister who’s birthday is on the 22nd of this month (Sept.), so I hope I’m able to finish it by then. We’ll see ;)
Btw….this has a TON of wrap & turns in it, which is great practice for learning this technique :)
10/3/16
Had to frog this the first time around, unfortunately, and didn’t get to give it to my sister for her birthday :( It turns out that this thing requires a TON of concentration (at least for me, anyway, lol) and the need to get your counting right, which is why I had to frog it the first time --- way too many distractions and interruptions from rude people who knew that I was trying to get this done for my sis’s bday. sigh Oh well…..can’t make people have respect for another person’s time, can we?
So -- to continue -- I finally finished this yesterday (10/2/16) and took it off the loom; a week and 4 days late, I might add……only to go to take a picture of it spread out, and my battery dies sigh So I’m calling this “Finished” even though I don’t have proof, lol !!
Here are the notes I made for myself in case anyone wants to try this on the loom:
First, if you’re right handed, you’ll want to cast on from right to left. This is a garter stitch pattern, so you’ll be going left when you do your purl row (your WS rows, ie: the even rows) which makes it easier because you can lift the loop up and place it back on the peg with your hook instead of having to put your hook down and use your fingers (saves some time).
Second, when doing your knit rows (the RS/odd rows), knitting them individually will work better at tightening up the stitches. I used a #3 sport weight for this project --- a thinner yarn that needed a little snugging up so as to eliminate loosey-goosey stitches. The choice is inevitably yours, though, so you do what works best for you and the yarn you’re using. You may very well want looser stitches, and that’s fine ;)
Third, for the wrap & turns; my first attempt before frogging, I was just wrapping and turning without lifting the stitch on the peg to be wrapped. Big mistake for me & I’ll tell ya why. I realized that when doing the purled rows, and having to lift the stitch off to replace it with the new one, those w&t’s kept sliding off the top of the peg, which in turn made it extremely difficult to try and fix. So I made it so that didn’t happen anymore by first lifting the stitch on the peg to be wrapped and then doing the w&t to “lock” it on there. Problem solved ! ;)
And Four, you must, MUST use stitch markers so you don’t screw up your counting --- like I did soooo many times. I had a row counter around my neck, I had a piece of paper with all the rows and ticked them off after I did my row counter, I printed out a piece of graph paper and put the rows on the graph, AND! I made a Word doc with every row typed out so I knew exactly which peg my W&T’s were to be on and printed it out! Yeah, I know --- I went a bit overboard, but it was the only way to get my butt to keep my counting precise. You know what though? I STILL messed up, if you can believe that! LOL
sigh
As I said previously…..you simply cannot control the rudeness of people. They will call you, they will talk to you when you’re counting, they will ask you to do things for them while you’re trying to count…..you can’t stop them unless you just make yourself unavailable. Put up a sign that reads, “DO NOT DISTURB!! THIS MEANS YOU!!”, and hope for the best :)
So there you have it! Hopefully I will be able to put a picture up of the finished project before I give it to my sis as a beLATED birthday gift.
Thank you Usurpers-of-my-Time! I really appreciate the courtesy! Much love to you too, lol.
Ok, I’m done now ;)

The pictures of the finished shawl are uploaded now and ready for your perusal ;)
I welcome any and all comments, and if you have any questions on doing this on a loom, please don’t hesitate to message me and I’ll be glad to help :)
Loved working on this, even with all the distractions, interruptions and subsequent mistakes as a result. It’s all a learning experience in my eyes :)
Happy Looming!
