Love it & will definitely be making more. A perfect hipster hat :-)
The pattern writing is perfect however I knit the piece 3 times before getting the fit right. My head circumference is 20.5” and I have fine hair so I generally find that most hats are big on me. With this in mind, I reduced the CO number to 108 & I worked 70 rounds of 1/2 twisted ribbing before beginning the crown shaping. Owing to the reduced number of CO sts, 11 rounds of crown shaping were worked (beginning on chart row 3).
The first hat I knit was with 3.75 mm needles & it was massive, even with the reduced number of CO sts. The second hat was knit with 3.5 mm needles (108 sts) but it was still too big. This final hat was knit with 3.0 mm needles (108 sts) needles . When I knit this again I will probably work 5-10 more rounds before beginning the crown shaping for a bit more slouch.
As an aside - The final hat was knit with 1 full skein of Arbor (I had a 12” length of wool left after casting off). I used the same yarn for all 3 versions - ripping, re-skeining & re-blocking the wool after the first 2 unsuccessful attempts. Despite the rough handling it has had held up beautifully & still looks brand new.
