Notes

This is a very easy pattern to follow. I created the waist band and the leg staps from fixation too. yarn is soft and retains shape. it took 1 day to make it, the next to wash and dry it. while others make socks as a small project, i am gonna do these. quick good looking, comfortable, and sellable.

modified the pattern:

Knitted jock strap

Waist band is waist size less 11 inches. Example: 36 waist: 25 inches of waist band
Leg straps are waist size less 7 inches divided by 2. example: 36 waist: 29inches div 2 14.5 inches

Using dps and point protectors:
Co 15 stitches
Before knitting first row, use a tapestry needle and scrap yarn. Skip first stitch pick up every other stitch for a total of 7 sts. Tie. Knit the 8 remaining sts and drop off the 7 “saved stitches”.
Stockinette stitch.
Even rows – purl
Row 3 – k, m1r, k3, m1r, k3, m1r, k – 11 sts

row 5 and every odd row (right side) until you have 21 stitches on needle – k, m1r, …. M1r, k

next odd row, k10, m1r, pm, k, pm, m1r, k10 – 23 sts
continue this pattern until there are 41 sts on needle

when 41 sts, do not increase any more.. continue in st st for 3.5 more inches.

hopefully the instructions below are better.
the lace bind off is the jacqueline fee’s lace cast-off/bind off from the sweater workshop book.
use fee picture to the left for a guide on the concept

when the 3.5 inches are done
begin waist band.
knit to center of “pouch” 20 sts put on sts holder.
knit 1 more stitch and then using a cable cast on method, cast on 12 sts from that one stitch on the right hand needle. you will have 13 sts on this needle now
you can either use a provisional cast on or put scrap yarn through those sts,, cause you are gonna use them again at the end for a 3 needle bind off…. or Kitchener stitch.
you are going to change direction of knitting at this point. so that the waist band is perpendicular to the pouch using a garter sts.
slip 1st sts
knit to pouch
slip up 1 sts off pouch needle
turn work
knit 2 tog, knit remaining 12 sts to end
turn work

continue this pattern until no sts pouch sts remain.
now, continue garter sts these 13 sts until waist is large enough
when you get to desired length, then put right side of pouch sts
back on left needle and bind off remaining sts as described above.
when you are finished , make sure you end with a row towards the pouch.
put saved stitches from left side on a new needle
using a 3 needle bind off knitting away from the pouch
leave a tail, weave in.
the seam will be in the middle front of the jock,, like a normal jock is.

Leg straps
count 8 rows (garter) from each side of pouch – do one then the other. Pick up 7 sts.. using a strap cord
Knit in the following manner: k4, place yarn in front, slip 3 turn work. repeat * to * till strap is correct length as calculated above.
Leave on stitch holder. Do other strap.
Pick up bottom of pouch, leg strap 1 and leg strap 2 making sure not to twist and do a 4 needle bind off. Finish work by working in end threads.

takes 1 ball of fixation to do 1 jock

thanks kevin.
