This beautiful pattern has been in my queue for a long time and finally I summoned enough courage to start this project - my first lace weight shawl.
Used bamboo DPNs to knit the lace border as they grab better the thread-like yarn.
Inserted a life line every 2 repeats. It really gave me confidence to knit on without worrying too much of making mistakes. But it’s easier than I have expected and I could sail on smoothly without the life line after about 16 repeats.
It helps a lot to have the border lace pattern written out and I counted the stitches every row to make sure that I have not made any mistake.
Have done 61 repeats and the unblocked lace edge is already 80 inches long!

Decided to make 65 repeats for the border (instead of 71) coz I don’t want the shawl to be too big (completed on Mar 6).

Picked up 267 sts, have 123 + 1 + 123 sts before starting the RI chart and did 15 times RI pattern each side (instead of 17). The RI chart is a lot easier and not difficult to memorize, I don’t have to refer to the chart that much.
I’m sure I will have a hard time blocking this shawl without blocking wires. I’m glad that I have taken this opportunity to order a very nice set.
Though the shawl is lace weight, it’s surprisingly warm! The size is just perfect. I have another yarn in mind for a second Rock Island already! ;)
Yarn: Fyberspates Elegance Lace - 65% silk, 35 camel, 800m/100g, color: Washed Demin
I struggled a bit whether I should use this slightly striated yarn and I’m happy with the result. It goes really well with white T and jeans! :)
The yarn does not hold block very well. Will spray a thin starch coating next time when blocking it.
