Notes

Still under the spell of Rock Island and decided to make a cream one that goes well with the summer wardrobe.

The yarn is of a heavy lace weight and the pattern looks better with 4.5mm needle.

I think 53 repeats would be a good size summer shawl.

Mods:

  • Since the thread is thicker and stiffer, I’m afraid that there will be a bump at the center between the lace border and the garter transition. So I didn’t do the garter ridges for the lace border on both sides and ended up doing 54 repeats. This way I only increased one stitch at the center when picking up the yarn overs and the result is great.

  • Use s2kp (centered double decrease) for the central stitch.

Blocked + a thin coat of starch spray. Really very pleased with the result! It’s so far my most favorite shawl!

The second Rock Island is much faster and easier to knit. I didn’t have to use life line at all.

There sure to be a third one - a gift to a good friend who finds this shawl very beautiful too.
