Cully Swansen (Elizabeth’s grandson) had produced a book called The Complete Surprise. It has expanded instructions for the surprise jacket. I followed the step-by-step on pages 32 and 33 for the jacket. The bonnet instructions are on 100-101. I am pleased with the result. I wanted to use a cotton blend yarn because it is for a spring baby. I liked the yarn, but it has a tendency to split, so you have to be careful. This made sewing the shoulder seams with a mattress stitch somewhat difficult. They did not just zip into place.
