The Nerdology challenge for round 2, Tournament 9, was to demonstrate the depth of our nerdity by crafting a project to show our love for a nerddom other than our own. A very obvious choice for me was reading, since that’s where I first realized I was a proud nerd. And while Harry Potter wasn’t my first book love (seeing as not been around nearly as long as I’ve had my nose in a book), it seemed extremely appropriate since I’m currently hooking my 8-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter on reading (and nerddom!) via Harry Potter.
So I made a golden snitch for the kids. Fortunately, I photographed it first, because as soon as they saw it, it was seized for a hard game of indoor Quidditch with both kids riding their walking-stick-turned-broomstick. And of course, I’ve now gotten requests to crochet them bludgers, quaffles, and bats…
The ball part of the snitch was knit with the listed yarn; the wings were done using metallic DMC floss, gold and silver held together (all 6 strands of each) and the smaller crochet hook.
