Notes

My very first Nerd Wars project! The round 1 Flex Schedule challenge was “Wear Something Gaudy,” and as I was reading it, I had most of a skein of Red Heart Buttercup in Flirty (in other words, fuzzy and hot pink) sitting next to me. Seemed like the perfect yarn. I’d knit a headband for my daughter with the yarn, and for her, it was par for the course. For me, though, we’re talking gaudy. But what to do with it?

For some reason, it seemed like the perfect cell phone cover. I just got a new cell phone about a month ago…and then several weeks later, dropped it. The case that was supposed to be able to absorb shock kinda…didn’t. And the result was a cracked screen. I figured this yarn would make for a nice cushy case, plus it’s less slippery than the phone in the new case, plus it’ll be a lot easier to find in my purse!

Team tie in: My daughter told me after wearing her handband the first time that her kindergarten classmates couldn’t resist petting it. After I knit my own case, I had to agree that the end result is very pettable. In fact, it feels a lot like bunny fur. And the pink color was a good match for the pink in the bunny costume that Anya wears in season 4 after Xander tells her to wear a scary costume. The name comes from a line Anya sings in I’ve Got a Theory in the Once More, With Feeling episode.
