Notes

26” x 60”

1300 yards

7 skeins?

This shawl is a long rectangle in Shetland Horseshoe lace.

Each end will be knit individually and grafted together so there will be a scalloped border at both ends.

Each Shetland Horseshoe motif is 3”. Edges are about .5” ea. Maybe make the edges wider?

Also, I can’t make a regular double decrease look tidy. Perhaps a centered double decrease will work better.

I knit until I had 22 g left on the second ball of white. I’m going to alternate white and light gray until I run out of white.

This shawl turned out longer than I had planned. I mean, much longer. I assume the calculations I made for yarn didn’t consider that I was doing lace. Also, I could have made it a little bit wider.

Still, it looks awesome. The color progression really works.

I have one skein left over. It’s going to be a matching hat. Fortunately, there are lots of Rav hat projects using Shetland Horseshoe lace.

Here’s a final note:

Instead of a seed stitch selvedge, which I used, I recommend plain garter. I thought that seed would be better because the row gauge won’t shrink, but that doesn’t matter if you block the shawl.

I gave up grafting seed stitch nicely and just grafted as if it was stockinette, but nobody else will notice.
