Assuming about 54” on a side, the diagonal length will be about 74”. Half of 74” is 37”. The length from the hypotenuse to the corner is 37”. The garter stitch portion will be about half of that, or 17” deep. More or less.

The white portion is 12” high. It takes about 1.5 skeins.
The gray portion, which will be twice as high, will take 3x as many skeins.
Black will take 5x as many skeins. Probably.

The first lace portion, in gray, is feather and fan, or old shell, or old shale, your preference. I took the corner stitch progression from the Sharon Miller book pictured above. If you love knitting lace, you want this book. You do.
I also found the edging in her book. There are many scallop edge variations, but I like hers the most.

For blocking I put the shawl through the wash and hung it up over the back of a tall arm chair to dry. The heavy weight of the non-wool yarn makes it practically self-blocking and gives it a lovely drape.
