I’ve discovered that bringing up a bit of extra yarn in those stitches leaves them loose enough that the row of stitches above them pull enough slack out to tighten the stitch and to have even tension throughout. This kinda goes against what we think we should do, which is to have those color changes tight to avoid holes. If you start out too snug, the next row will tighten that stitch even more, therefore, making the tension even worse. Hope this can help anyone!
