Mostly HLILTY, with a few worsted odds and ends as well. No yarn purchased for this!!!
Basic dc ripple. Chain 176+2 to start (assuming 5 inches wide per 16-stitch pattern repeat, to get 55” wide afghan).

Tip for a nice beginning edge: use a size larger hook for the starting chains. After switching back to the smaller hook, work first row into the back loops on the chains.
Key thing to remember with this pattern: at the beginning of each row, you skip that first stitch (the chain-2 counts as the first st), then do 7 dc, then the increase. That very first chain 2/dc pair mirrors the very last 2-stitch decrease you do at the END of the row.
Method: I wind leftover yarn into balls “yay” big, allowing for some variability, then line them up into some sequence, and just crochet them up in order, ending the previous wherever, even if mid-row. Great way to use up yarn! Here, I’m using about 35 smallish balls (not counting a couple of the tiny balls here). Each one should do at least 2 rows, sometimes as many as 4ish.
After I was 19 balls in, I was averaging 1.7 inches per ball. So with 35 balls, I’d get about 60 inches in length. After some edging, I should be able to get close to 63” (per Warm Up America preferred afghan dimensions).
I squared off the top and bottom in the first round of the edging (see pic for details). I did the bottom similar as the top (need to modify slightly since you start at a peak on the bottom of the afghan, rather than a valley). Best tip is to find the peak, then count the stitches around that to figure out where to put the 6 sts on each side, along with that tr3tog (valley). For the sides of the afghan (round 1 of edging), I put 2 sc into each dc along the side. After that first round of edging, I did 2 more rounds of hdc (mixing up sc and hdc along top and bottom in round 2 to even out a bit more… specifically, I put hdcs into the trs from round 1, since that’s where it was still needing to come up).
NOTE FOR NEXT TIME ON SQUARING OFF TOP AND BOTTOM maybe try 2 sc into the peak stitch (rather than just 1)… what I did is pulling in a bit.. maybe decreased too many sts with the tr3tog in the “valley”.
Final dimensions: 51” x 70”.
