I LOVE IT! Despite my initial notes below about it being too long, this fits perfectly (typing this over a year after I finished it, while wearing it), it really does. I love it.
My stockinette gauge is a bit tighter than the pattern calls for with size 6 needles, and my goal is 38” around (my bust is about 36”). I’ll cast on 117 per side, which should get me close to my goal (234 sts around, 230 if I subtract out sts used in seaming, 230/6 sts per inch = 38.3”). Ended up being 40” around… didn’t do a good job on my gauge swatch, recommend swatching the pattern stitches too!!
Seems like the suggested length of the front and back is too long than what I want… so I’m making it a bit shorter (after comparing to other shirts’ length that I like). Goal = 23”. REALLY good idea. After finishing, even this seemed 1-2” too long! If you make this, carefully consider it (noting that it might stretch longer with wear).
Back piece notes:
Ribbing at bottom = 11 rows (1.5”).
14 total pattern repeats in right diagonal rib pattern.
Total height just a tad over 23”.
Front piece notes:
I stopped for the neck shaping at 21.5” (1.5” less than back), which was 2 rows shy of my 13th pattern repeat. After neck shaping, be sure to finish with the same total rows as for back (through 14th pattern repeat).
I wish I had slipped the first stitch of every row. Would make it MUCH easier for joining the pieces. I’ll likely never make this again (it was pretty boring to knit for me), but if I do, this will be important to remember.
After seaming the shoulders, and front to back, I tried it on… seems WAY too big… can always try to shrink it in the dryer. But after finishing the edges, turned out ok!
Neck edging: I was worried it would be too open/wide. Rounds 1-3 I used the size 6 needle. For round 4 + the BO round, I used a size 4 needle. And I bound off snugly (not loose at all), so it stays tight up there.
PERFECT! Pulled it in just the right amount! It lays flat on my neck, and I am VERY pleased with it. Doesn’t seem quite too big anymore (just a little too long).
First hank lasted through the cast on + 11 ribbing rows + 3 repeats (equals 36 rows) + 8 rows (7 inches from cast on).
