After two rounds to even out the edges - much improved! Used a mix of hdc and dc on the octagon edges, as needed.

Joined! VERY wonky/uneven edges. I’ll even those out with a round or two of sts of varying heights.

Closer view of wonky edges..l

Joining in diagonal strips first, then will join the strips.

All pieces complete!

Triangle piece for corner

Triangle piece for edge

Square piece. Here also, I added one yo for all post sts (2 yo for fpdcs, 3 yo for fptr). Not the squarest-looking square, could benefit from some mods, but should be fine when joined to adjacent pieces.

Square piece, alternate view to see the lovely texture.

Octagon 6 (diff. lighting)

Octagon 5 (diff. lighting)

Octagon 4

Octagon 3

Octagon 2

Octagon 1

Octagon 1: approx 20” across
I added a yo for the fptr and fpdtr (3 yo and 4 yo, respectively). Also, HIGHLY recommend using st markers to mark the first and last stitch of each round. When joining new yarn, join with standing stitch when possible (sc or dc).
