Another pair of BSS socks, this time with a Galosh heel - it’s not an official name, but IMO it suits perfectly. I was inspired by this picture-tutorial on IG, the author is negalu, here’s the project page on Ravelry.
It’s not dissimilar to HG heel in how it starts, but the increases are spaced differently.
Summary:
TAAT, toe-up.
Magic loop.
Star toe.
68 sts circumference.
Galosh heel.
JSSBO.
Weight - 78/9 gr.
Made in 32 hours.
BSS pattern:
solid: k
var: k1, p1
solid: k
var: p1, k1
Heel:
Mark the 9 centre stitches, you’ll be making increases at each side of the 9-st panel.
with orange:
k 12, inc1, k9, inc1, k11, shadow wrap/twin st, turn
Note:
I tried the following to minimise the holes from the increases: made RLI and LLI as usual, but twisted the main sts - on the right side of the panel - to the left, on the left side of the panel - to the right.
Purl across all sts but 1, shadow wrap/twin st, turn.
Cont. till there are 12 twin sts on each side of the heel, finish with purl row.
From now on - just short rows. Cont. till there are 18 twin sts on each side (12 + 6), finish with the purl row.
K across, working twin sts as 1.
Start another heel.
Decreases:
Dec every 4th rnd (solid colour) at 4 points: at each edge of the heel and at each side of the 9-stitch centre panel, with sts leaning to the centre.
Note on the number of increases for the heel - keep in mind the repeat of the pattern (4 rounds) and the planned decrease strategy, so that BSS pattern keeps it’s consistency.
I somewhat changed it, so in the end I had to change the 9 centre sts pattern to get back to the overall BSS look.
Next time - space the decreases over the rounds sparingly, maybe not every 4 rnd at first, but every 8th (?), to improve the fit.
