White and light gray - MC (background colours, right hand, yarn below)
Blue, dark blue and black - CC (dominant colours, left hand, yarn above).
I modified the pattern so it is top-down. My calculations are slightly different from those in the original pattern. I also made sure my CO and BO match.
Notes on the top-down construction (chart reversed, see last picture)
Yoke
CO 108 sts (Tubular/Italian CO) with dark blue. I find this tutorial helpful.
1x1 ribbing with twisted stitches - 5 rounds.
k 1 round with light gray.
Next round: Inc 60 sts evenly with light gray. ((k1, inc1) x 5, k4) x 12. I used lifted increases. 168 sts in total.
Start working according to the reversed chart.
Work rounds 13-16.
Round 17: Inc 60 sts evenly. ((k2, inc1) x 5, k4) x 12. 228 sts in total.
Work rounds 18-35.
Round 36: Inc 60 sts evenly. ((k3, inc1) x 5, k4) x 12. 288 sts in total.
Work rounds 1-16 of the chart.
Body
Round 17: divide into 4 parts (front, back and sleeves) : K 72 sts, put 72 sts on a stitch holder (I used Chiaogoo interchangeable cables with stoppers), CO 12 sts (underarm, Judy’s Magic CO), k 72 sts, put 72 sts on a stitch holder, CO 12 sts (underarm, JMCO).
Continue from round 18 till desired length. I worked 69 rounds, ending with round 14 of the chart.
Rounds 15, 16, 17 - do light gray instead of white.
Finish with 6 rounds of 1x1 ribbing.
Tubular bind off in the round. I found this tutorial very helpful.
Sleeves
Put all sts from stitch holders into one needle. Start the round in the middle of the underarm.
Knit 1 round in white, 2 rounds in light gray, 5 rounds in 1x1 ribbing in dark blue. Tubular BO in the round.
Et voila :-)
My yarns are of slightly different weight. That, and also my relative inexperience with Fair Isle made my sts wonky in many places. Also, my gauge was different in a swatch / the yoke / the body.
Gauge in swatch - 23 sts-10cm
Gauge in the yoke - 24 sts - 10cm
Gauge in the body - 19 sts - 10cm
Ira Super Maxi was held doubled.
Yarn distribution in the project - figures are estimate.
171 ends woven in.
