Regular viewers will remember that I started designing my own knitted toys at the start of last year. After a few months, I realised that there were a few things that I really, really wanted to make and one of those things was a pelican! Not any pelican either - I wanted something so tropical that it looked like it had just stepped off the set of Miami Vice. And I think Peggy pretty much fulfills that brief!
Skills-wise, I’d say that Peggy is within the grasp of most knitters and there’s lots of scope to personalise her by changing the colour of the wings or even the whole bird! The only thing I’d add is that it’s worth taking your time with the sewing. Yes, sewing is a faff but, once you’ve finished something, you’ve finished it forever so you might as well make it super-neat!
If you do decide to make a pelican of your own, I would love to see him or her so don’t forget to share your finished project on Ravelry. You’d also be welcome to join me on Instagram where I post stories about my knitted friends, including Peggy!
