Notes

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” (Proverbs 13:12 NIV)

I have decided to raffle this and donate the proceeds to the National Foundation for Transplants, a not-for-profit whose primary mission is to assist patients and families with the costs associated with organ transplantation that are not covered by insurance or other programs.

I replaced the flower band with a stylized “path through the trees” motif, using the incorporated patterns listed above, to represent that we all need someone to walk beside us in our times of trouble.

My personal pattern details:
CO 240: 10 garter border, 180 original, 40 for extra tree repeat, 10 garter border. Ten garter ridges at beginning and end of blanket.

Pattern: 10 border (garter), 2 edge (rev stst), 40 tree (chart), 4 spacer (rev stst), 40 tree (chart), 4 spacer (rev stst), 40 tree (chart), 4 spacer (rev stst), 40 tree (chart), 4 spacer (rev stst), 40 tree (chart), 2 edge (rev stst), 10 border (garter)

Use MDK Ballband Dishcloth pattern for tiled path but replace slipped stitches with stockinette (10 st repeat).

Welted pattern (8 st repeat)

Leaf and path section 64 rows: 2 rows stockinette, 4 rows garter, 2 rows stockinette, 32 rows welted leaf, 2 rows stockinette, 20 rows path, 2 rows stockinette, 32 rows welted leaf starting with row 3 of chart, 2 rows stockinette, 4 rows garter, 2 rows stockinette.

Back at it on 02/09 at Thursday night knitting! Note for third set of trees: Need to have reverse stockinette rows underneath them or they look weird. I’ll leave the second set as is and call it a design element because I don’t want to rip out 20 boring 240-stitch rows. As of today ready to start the part of the tree chart that requires paying attention (i.e., trunks are done).

Felt the need to pick this back up on my birthday this week and have flown through the second set of trees.

I really love this colorway but I’ll always wish I had used traditional Aran so the design would be shown to best effect.

Notes on the yarn: Love it. Great acrylic/wool blend if you need machine washability - very toasty in my lap even though it’s mostly acrylic. And I love love LOVE the giant skeins. Making a nice fabric, although I’ll try a US7 next blanket I make with it.

Halfway through the first Welted Leaf motif on the second leaf and path section. Really cracked on this weekend! Nearly done with second skein.

11/06/2019

Bound off as per uzh but was tighter than cast-on edge, so tried Suspended Bind-off. Not as tidy an edge but much better match to cast on.
