Notes

Notes:

-Stitch markers? They are our friends. Cast on 9 stitches, place a marker. Now place more markers after every 7 stitches until you have cast on enough to make a blanket of your desired size, and then place a marker and add 9 final stitches. (The 9 on each end will be two of the four borders.)

-As written, this pattern calls for 123 total stitches. So you want 9/105/9. That 105 can be 84 or 175 or however many you want or don’t want, so long as it is in multiples of 7. Me, I’ve got 9/112/9.

-Where the pattern says “knit 9 ridges garter stitch”, this is the same as saying “knit 18 rows of garter stitch” (because it will produce 9 countable “ridges”). If you use a long-tail cast on (which looks like a ridge), count it.

-The Gull lace specifies your directions for rows 1 through 3. What it does not specify: Row 4. That’s right, there’s an unmentioned row 4! Purl it. Then start over again with row 1.

4/7/11 Cast on. Misunderstood the pattern, but Cate saved the day yet again. A lot of the notes above are due to her excellent guidance. Thanks, Cate!

4/11/11 Had some really great knitting time over the weekend, knitted in one whole skein and started skein #2. Moved off of the 60” cable onto the 32” cable. I always feel like I’ll need that length when I start a blanket, and then I just find myself irritated with all the extra cable. I only bought the 60” cables for magic loop work, anyhow.

4/13/11 Added another progress photo. 50% complete. This goes pretty quickly.

4/18/11 Two whole skeins in. One more on hand, undecided on using just some or all of it.

4/29/11 This project has been neglected for a week or so while I work on the Traveling Woman for my mother’s 60th birthday. I did work on the blanket a good deal last weekend, and it is nearly finished, I think. Just a bit more to go.

11/13/11 Oh. Hey. Yeah, so remember how this was going pretty quickly? I saw something shiny, got distracted, and forgot about it. BUT NO MORE! It’s now complete, just need to weave in the ends! This was originally intended for a baby who was born six months ago, ahem, but now there’s an entirely different other baby coming at the end of March so this baby’s for that baby! YEAH!

12/20/11 Gifted to parents of forthcoming baby girl.
