Notes on tweed ribbing

Modifications
- Raised back of neck in the body mid raglan at shoulders keeping in pattern. (I noticed some projects had a very low depth in back where the collar begins which would be the easiest place for the designer to add back neck length but I didn’t like the look)
- Lengthened sleeves. Knit separately with increases calculated. Cuffs are purely decorative, given he likes his sleeves long but would rather have knitted fabric instead of long ribbed cuffs.
- No pockets.
- Provisional cast on for all pieces.
- Lengthened raglan depth by slowing down the decrease rate.
- Deepened shawl collar.German short rowed and US 3.0 mm every stitch until depth met. I felt german short rows work well with garter stitch. Did not follow pattern at all at this point.
Followed instructions as to when to quit sleeves to maintain pattern when attaching to body. Did increases maintaining pattern when attaching sleeves to body to increase arm circumference. Decrease rate for raglan recalculated.

Nixed the brioche collar/button band idea as several swatches with different needle sizes could not get the structure I was seeking. Changed to garter stitch with German short rows. Method worked great, with every stitch short rowed until desired depth of collar, approximately 8”, then short rowed every 3 stitches to beginning of the V neck before starting the button bands. collar depth about 5.5”folded with button band @ 2.5”. Simple psso, cable cast on +1 return for buttonholes.
6/25/21 Stockinette stitch private side to roll edge to inner side . Then tacked down with the bind off.
Garter stitch used about 1 3/4 skeins.
Finished during the three hottest days ever on record here in the PNW. Kept washing my hands in cold water to keep them from sweating.
The Hebridean yarn by Virtual Yarns is absolute heaven. The sweater has a marvelous structure.
photos will be included with a model when the temps decrease .
