This is the perfect pattern for handspun. When looking at the finished product, however, I think I could have spun greys with more color difference, the faces of the top sheep are duplicate stitched with white, they just didn’t pop with the lighter grey.
Have no dog that this would fit for a model and the cats say NO WAY! Will have to wait till Louie receives it for a real picture in use.
I just love this pattern, bought it even though Louie is smaller than the pattern indicates. Two concerns right off the bat, the pictured dog sweater is actually not as wide than the patterned one, if one looks at the schematic of the pattern and compares it to the picture. Also - it is NOT knit in the round with a slipover ribbed neck, but rather knit flat with a button band. Had I know that, I would have just reverse engineered the pattern, since I am going to be doing that anyway in order to get it to fit Louie, to have it be knit in the round in the chest area and have a ribbed neck able to be slipped over his head. But I love Kate’s designs, it is worth it.
I altered the ram’s head design to have it fit inside the lower back section, used smaller needles and paid special attention to the ribbing for fit. Neck ribbing done on 1.5mm at first, changing to 2mm for second half. Rest of ribbing done on 2mm needles 2 x 2 rib.
Gauge ended up after washing 9 sts and 9 rows per inch!, since Louie is white and they may not show up so much. I also knit in a 4 row hole (with back and forth knitting) to accommodate the leash ring on his harness.
I am spinning my own wool, I have tons of colored fleece. Spinning is done on my Alden Amos electric wheel and the fleeces themselves range from in the grease (the white shetland), thru carded, to combed. Shetland, Bond, CVM, Romeldale cross, Morrit merino, and some I just don’t remember what!
