Notes

About the pattern:

  • Lion Brand only shows a knit photo, even on the crochet instructions. (Photo here is my crocheted work).
  • The stitch itself is fairly easy, but the overall work is not for beginners!
  • Pattern instructions could have been clearer; for example, shaping around arms, neck, etc. went fine, but neck instruction could have been more specific in where to put stitches to have the neck shape in the right places for wear and folding.
  • This is more labor intensive than it looks!
  • The bottom band is a bit too big around. They call for a smaller hook on the bottom band, but I think it could have been two sizes smaller hook. BUT I used a heavier yarn and it may have caused the difference.

About my project:

  • Original pattern called for weight-2 yarn; I had weight-3, so I used the newborn instructions to make a 3-6 month size.
  • Blue side panels are not part of the pattern. Finished work yoke size was fine but I wanted more room in the rest of the bunting; I added it by putting in a very long dart, the widest part at the bottom, ending in the point under the arm.
  • Using the larger yarn/newborn instructs, the 5/8” buttons I had fit perfectly (pattern called for 1/2”).
  • I made up the matching hat myself, using the same pattern stitch, starting at the BOTTOM of the hat and working up to the crown (in order for the shells to be going the in the same direction as the bunting); this also let me be precise on the size. The bottom band should start with multiple 10 stitches + 1). If anyone wants instructions for the hat, let me know.
  • I purchased the adorable “Peter Rabbit Buttons from the Beatrix Potter Collection” from JHB on Amazon. (Buttons discontinued). I sewed a “spare” on the bottom right of the bunting.
  • I use acrylic yarn for the easy care and this yarn washed and dried well and became even softer.

Even with the labor involved and some of the snags I encountered (some probably caused by me), I am VERY happy with the finished work, and would still recommend it for someone not in a time crunch that was really in love with the look.
