After a few swatches and a few missteps, cast on 11/10. It’s coming along nicely, although my mother did have to knit a row to help me get my ribbing tension right … should I be admitting that on a public forum?

11/12 - 104 rows in 3 days! I doubt I’ll be able to keep up this pace the whole way through, but at my planned 20 rows per day this puts me two days ahead of schedule.

11/14 - 128 rows, but I managed to hurt my wrist knitting. Time to slow down, eh?

11/16 - One week and 165 rows in, which is pretty good progress despite the two days I could barely knit anything. However, with most of my first two skeins gone and the scarf not yet two feet long, I’m worried I’m going to have to use another two skeins to get the length I want (6 feet). This scarf is expensive enough as it is already!

12/7 - Three quarters of the way through! In retrospect, I shouldn’t have used colorways which have so many colors in common, because I ended up having to do a lot of splicing to keep the stripes clean and distinct, and ultimately had to buy one more skein to make up for the spliced out yarn I couldn’t work back in to the striping pattern.

Hand strain problems were solved when I switched from cheap metal needles to nice wooden ones, but I think the scarf might’ve gotten fractionally wider at that point… Still, it’s looking really good! I’m sure my brother will love it (or else).

12/19 - Finished! Just in time for my brother’s birthday in a few days.

Techniques learned: striping with a slipped stitch edge.
