Mom’s partially finished project. Back and most of left front complete. Can not bring myself to frog her work, so I might as well finish it. Pattern missing but I think I can reverse shaping from left front to complete. Not sure about the collar, but will figure something out.
3/31/16 - happy day, I found an extra skein of the project yarn mixed in with some of Mom’s other stash. I only had one skein originally, and it definitely did not look like enough to finish the other front and the collar. But now I think I’m ok. Time to get to work finishing this.
7/5/2016 - decided life was too short to try to sort this out without the pattern, especially when the pattern is available on ebay for less than $4. Pattern in hand and ready to settle in and finish this. I think I will try to add in some waist shaping during finishing to update the styling a bit.
4/23/2017 - realizing that I am not likely to wear this myself, I decided to finish for Mom to wear. On further investigation to her work, she was making a large, which means she was making it for herself. It will be roomy on her now, but that won’t matter. Wish I could ask her about it now (as well as so many other things).
Also discovered that Mom was a combo knitter, wrapping purls the opposite and knitting through back leg. I never knew that, and I’m sure she didn’t know that was what she was doing. No twisted stitches in her work, but I could tell when I picked up the WIP left front to finish it.
5/5/2017, knitting complete - was able to match her gauge fairly well. Decided to kitchener together the back of the collar to avoid the seam - grafting ribbing in a mohair blend - fun times. But results are worth it as it is a very nice finish. Found some wonderful sheep buttons in mom’s sewing stash. She still loves her sheep, visiting the flock in Williamsburg is one of her most favorite activities. Hope she will be able to enjoy her own little flock on this sweater. Blocked and ready to be mailed or delivered.
