This postcard dating 1903 shows two men from Egypt, working with yarn. Egypt, where the oldest knittings were found. The book “Knitting around the world” by Lela Nargi shows a twelth-century sock of white and indigo cotton. A part of the pattern is copied in my knitted socks.

Zwei Ägypter, auf einer Postkarte von 1903, einer mit Strickzeug, der andere mit Spindel. In Ägypten wurden die ältesten Strickstümpfe gefunden. Im Buch „Knitting around the World“ von Lela Nargi ist ein Foto von einem Strumpf aus dem 12.Jahrhundert. Ein Teil des Musters habe ich in meinen gestrickten Socken kopiert.

A twelth-century sock of white and indigo cotton, found in Egypt. Although the color and materials were common in Egypt,at the time, this sock utilizes a knitting technique, that was not common to the area. This sock is thought to have originated in India.
