Notes

We’re reminded by the newspaper that March 20 (this coming Tuesday) is Good Deed Day. Having just cast off my smallest circular US 8 bamboo needle, I think it’s time to make a hat for an AIDS orphan in South Africa rather than yet another Bertrand Louis cowl (which is the usual purpose for those needles).

The pattern calls for CO 88 for an adult. I pulled out a long tail that gave me 76 st + 1 for joining in the round, so this will be the child size.

It’s quite stretchy, and I’m going to knit it extra long to allow for turning up the brim (1 row knit + 6 rows of k1p1 ribbing) - also because I prefer the appearance of the wrong side of the German twisted caston.

Not entirely happy with the BO, which specifies p2tog for all the decreases, and messes up the k/p alternation. I don’t recall what I did the first time, but perhaps can come up with an alternative for the future.
