Will make this for the Killer Kitch stripes KAL
Will try for a long sleeved version. I haven’t been able to find out which type of wool was used for the original, but I suspect Shetland wool, which leads me to the local Norwegian equivalent, Rauma Finull. It’s not the exact same quality, but very similar, and I think it will help with retaining the shape of the sleeves.
The original calls for 4 Oz of light colour, and 3 of dark. I think I’ll go for 5 skeins of light and 4 of dark, as I’m planning on knitting long sleeves.
Pattern repeat
- 18 + 18 sts (Pattern row 8: (P2 tog) 3 times, (P1, pick up) 6 times, (P2 tog) 6 times, (P1, pick up) 6 times, (P2 tog) 3 times
- 8 rows

10.03.2019 - Tension
On 3.25 mm needles with Rauma Finull:
Before washing:
- 6.85 sts per inch in wave stitch pattern
- 12 rows per inch in wave stitch pattern
No changes after washing
Will aim for 26 wave ridges front and back, an additional 4 from the original, to fit a 39/40 inch bust. 19 ridges for the yoke. It shouldn’t be necessary to add more length to the torso, as with my tension it should measure almost 8 inches from the armscye to the top of the waist ribbing.
10.03.2019 - mods
- Will make long sleeves (approx 18 inches)
- Will add side shaping over 10 rows
- Will distribute the added width evenly and add one extra curly thing at the neck
- Will knit the torso first, and pick up 96 sts for the welt
13.03.2019 - Torso
Side shaping:
Cast on 9 sts, knit in pattern and cast on another 9 stitches every second row until there are 54 stitches on the needle.
Yoke:
- Relaxed - 9 3/8 inch
- Stretches comfortably to 13 inches
Bust:
- Relaxed - 15 1/2 inch
- Stretches comfortably up to 21 inches.
Yardage:
50 grammes light and approx 40 grammes dark turquoise for the front and the same for the back.
13.03.2019 - Sleeves
Do shaping as written, but keep casting on stitches every other row until you’ve completed 4 turquoise ridges. Now cast on for sleeve head with dark yarn. Keep increasing for sleeve shaping until there are 82 sts on the needle. At this point turn and knit until the end of the sleeve. Now cast on 26 sts. This will bring the total to 162 sts. This will make for a bracelet length sleeve.
Make twirly bits at the end of the sleeve every second light turquoise ridge, 5 twirly things in all. Once done there should be 13 turquoise ridges in the sleeve head, and 4 turquoise ridges extending at both sides.
Upper sleeve width:
- Relaxed - 18 ridges / 11 inches
- Stretches comfortably to 14 inches

Decided to pick this up again and finish it.
07.08.2019
Oh man! Had to unravel 3 days work on the second sleeve. Not very happy. Don’t know how but somewhere along I managed to increase more than I should on the wave at the top of the shoulder, and every following increase / decrease row it got worse, until I discovered it. Nothing to do but unravel the darned thing. Such a bummer!
17.08.2019 - welt
With 2.75 mm needles, pick up 96 stitches from the lower edge of the front / back, and knit in 1k 1p ribbing for 1.5 inch. Change to 3 mm needles and knit a further 2.5 inches.
Sewn bind off as explained here
