07.04.2020 - Tension
2.25 hook:
Waistband: 24 sts to 3.5 inches - 6.8 sts per inch
Bodice lace: Approx 1.25 inches to 3 loops
Looks like it’s spot on
Will have to add stitches to make it fit. Will not try with a bigger needle, as the fabric looks very good at this tension.
Chain 111 loosely ( should measure a little more than half my waist measurement, so aim for 16.5 - 17
inches)
10.04.2020 - Bodice
I’ve found it’s best to press the fabric before measuring it, as the lace stitch contracts a lot in height, and it’s very hard to guess the height as you’re working on it. It also tends to pull back a little after pressing, so it’s best to press, measure, let the piece sit for a while, and then measure again.
Skip 2 d c, s c in next d c, ch 4, skip 1 d c, s c in next d c, ch 4, repeat from * across
(43 loops). Ch 5, turn.
2nd row: Sc in 1st loop,
* ch 4, 1 c in next loop, repeat from * across. Ch 3,
turn.
3rd row: Into sc just made, make I dc, 2 tr and I dc (a shell). Sc in 1st loop, * ch 4, s c in next loop, ch 4, s c in next loop, in next sc (of previous row - between the 2 loops) make a shell as before, sc in next loop, repeat from * across, ending row with 1 loop after the last shell ( 15 shells). Ch 5, turn.
4th row: Sc in 1st loop, * ch 4, sc between the 2 tr of shell, ch 4, s c in next loop, ch 4, sc in next loop, repeat from * across (43 loops). Ch 5, turn.
The last 3 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat these 3 rows until work measures 10 inches from top of waistband, ending with a loop row. Turn and break off.
To Shape Armholes:
1st row: Attach thread to 3rd loop, work in pattern across to within 3 loops from end. Ch 5, turn.
2nd row: Work in pattern to within last loop (or the last shell if it happens to be a shell), thus decreasing 1 loop at end of row.Ch 5, turn.
Repeat the 2nd row, decreasing 1 loop at end of each row until 29 loops remain in the row. Then work in pattern straight until work mureasures 7.5 inches from 1st row of armhole, ending with a loop row. Break off.
Shape front:
Work as for back until front measures 8
inches from top of waistband, ending with a loop
row. Turn. Work in pattern across 15 loops, turn (to start neck shaping). Work in pattern over these 15 loops until underarm measures 10 inches (same as underarm of back). Then start shaping armhole same as for back, keeping the neck edge straight until armhole measures same as armhole of back, ending with a loop row. Break off.
This completes one side. Attach thread to 16th
loop from underarm on other side and work to
correspond (leaving the center 12 loops free for
neck opening). Sew up shoulder and underarm
seams, -leaving waistbands open at sides. Attach
thread to neck edge at one shoulder seam and work
a row of sc down, across, and up the front and
across the back, placing sc closely together and being careful not to stretch nor to draw work.
Then work 2 more rows of s c, decreasing 1 sc at
each corner. Break off.
06.06.2020 - sleeves
Chain 77 for foundation chain
Sleeve head:
decrease 1 loop at end of each row (as in armhole shaping of back) until 18 loops remain in the row.
09.07.2020
The front, back and sleeves are done, and the next thing to do is to stitch the pieces together, and do the SC edge around the neck opening. Once that’s done I’ll work the ties
25.07.2020
Bow Tie. Ch 60, turn. lst row: S c in 8th ch from
hook, * ch 4, skip 3 ch of foundation ch, s c in
next ch, repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row:
S c in lst loop, * ch 4, s c in next loop, repeat from
*
across. Ch 5, turn. Repeat 2nd row until work
measures 14 inches. Break oft. Make another one
same as this.
