Argh, I am not so convinced of these Kestrel pattern book patterns anymore. I’ve now knit two (and one more is halfway done) and I am thinking they are sized for midgets with toothpick arms. I don’t usually have these kinds of fit issues and I am choosing sizes with comparable ease to what they say the model is wearing, so I don’t know what’s going on. They’re all coming out super short and with super tight armholes.
And the neckline on this is crazy huge, like totally falling off my shoulders. I will wash and block this and see if that helps the length/armholes and if so I’ll probably just pick up stitches around the neckline. If not I’ll be ripping back and redoing the entire shoulder/neck shaping.
OK, blocked it and it helped with the length a little but the armholes/neckline still has the issues. So I ripped back and knit to about 17.5” before starting the short rows, and it’s much better now. Just the sleeves left!
Love the fabric, it feels so expensive.

So I have to say, especially now that I live in L.A., this is hands down my most worn garment that I’ve made. Maybe even most worn handmade item, period. Definitely thinking about more -- I’d like to make a crocheted one without the arm tubes. The short row shoulders, open neck, and cropped length elevate this from a bad fitting square to a perfectly proportioned oversized top.
