He may not have brains, but he has a fair amount of common sense, and with it he helps Dorothy and the other travelers make it all the way to the Emerald City. There, Oz grants him his wish: filling his head with pins and nails to demonstrate his sharp wit. However, it has been said that one can be so sharp they cut themselves, so I’ve substituted instead a diploma, which is how most people in this world can tell how smart you are. Is it right? Probably not. But other people have gotten diplomas and degrees for doing much less than traveling all the way to see the Wizard (and helping destroy the Witch), so Scarecrow deserves at least one.
This listing is for the crochet pattern that will make a Scarecrow doll approximately 18 inches tall and 10 inches wide, with his hat, jacket, baggy pants, shoes, gloves, and diploma.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was written by L. Frank Baum and published in 1900. However, the book lapsed into public domain in 1956, so the characters are available for free use in other works – such as my dolls!
Please be aware that, although I try to make my patterns as simple and easy to understand as possible, you may get more value from them if you are an intermediate to experienced crocheter. A familiarity with sc, dc, increases, decreases, and working in the round will serve you in good stead. :)
Patterns ordered from me will be delivered by email in .pdf format, either as an attachment or a downloadable link, so please make sure you have a working email address included in your payment information.
