knit 2 at a time and knit-in ends as go along.
started mitts more accurate to pattern by being in plain St st to show off the nice yarn but as i got most of the first color done i decided it needed a little more visual interest and eventually decided on a DNA strand trailing up the side and frogged it back down to the cuff.
mitts now really only resembles original pattern by yarn choice and similar color blocking/striping.
CO52(for someone with skinny arms)
Cuff: (ktbl, p1)
used DNA cable chart with one purl stitch added on each end(making 11st total) and offset on top of hand so it will be about 13st from planned placement of thumb gusset. mirrored design on left and right side so right hand started at row 1 and left started at row 14 of the chart.
thumb gusset:
row 1- knit to placement PM,M1L, k1, M1R, PM
row 2-3 knit
row 4- knit to marker SM, M1L, knit to marker M1R SM
repeat rows 2-4 until 15st between markers then move gusset stitches to scrap yarn or holder and continue knitting hand in the round, M1 on second round at spot where it was joined to bring st count back to even number and to help close up gap. (ETA: wish i had knit 3 plain rows instead of 2 for a longer gusset, and that i started gusset right after color change.)
for thumb pick up 3 stitches at join but on next round ktg the 2 outer stitches with the original 15 for 16 total, knit 4 rounds then BO.
jssbo for hand and thumb
Yarn/Size Notes: Dust Bowl(lt brown) was the only yarn color i used all it’s yarn for which ended up -just- under 3.5in long. cut off the Plaster(cream) when they reached 5.5in. over all total glove length is just over 12.5in and 3.5in across laid flat.
Notes on DNA Cable: its a lot easier to knit the cable stitches as “twisted Stitches” (basically a way todo a 1x1 cables without a cable needle) you just purl instead of knit as needed. a site with a great explanation on knitting left and right twisted stitches/mini-cables is http://www.leethalknits.com/tutorials/twisted.html
