This project feels like it’s moving along pretty quickly. I’d never done brioche knitting before, but the back hem/brioche stitch section was easy to get the hang of.
Joined the front & back hem to start the body. The instructions say to bring the needle with the front hem stitches in front of the needle with the back hem and then to knit the next 13 stitches together… After reading this a few times, I figured out that this means to knit the first stitch off of one needle with the first stitch off the other needle and pull the new stitch through both stitches; not really having used this technique before (sorta used it for pleats on a baby tunic), I wasn’t sure what I was doing!! A video tutorial or more written instructions would have helped for less experienced knitters (I still include myself in that group).

Things were going pretty smoothly until the neck shaping. I found the pattern a bit confusing - there was one set of instructions for shaping the armholes, but a separate/different sequence for decreases at the neck, which I had a hard time figuring out what I was supposed to do based on how the pattern was written. I had to read and reread the instructions a few times. A chart or diagram would have helped immensely! For some reason this project is really testing my pattern comprehension skills. It is actually very clever - I just know I would have benefited from a little more hand holding. Or maybe I shouldn’t have been drinking wine while knitting.

Have finished the first sleeve and blocked the body. I’m noticing that this sweater looks huge!!! I almost always worry about my gauge being too tight and resulting in a sweater that is too small… Definitely not a concern here. Since Brooklyn Tweed definitely expands with blocking, I perhaps should have knit the smaller size!

All done. Sweater actually fits pretty well as it is intended to be boxy. All in all, I’m really happy with the final result, but wish the pattern had included a little more detail.

5-year update: I love this sweater. I can’t believe there are only 9 projects for such a great/wearable design. If you peruse this project and pattern, I highly recommend!
