Borrowed heavily from the two linked patterns to make a hat that would fit my 1 year old French bulldog.
Used a mix of leftover Brooklyn Tweed Shelter for the hat and some handspun local yarn (alpaca, silk, llama, angora and POMERANIAN!!!) for the horn.
Here’s what I did:
With a light worsted weight yarn, CO 3 on US 4 needles.
Increase Section Row 1: Knit all sts
Increase Section Row 2: Kfb, k to last st, kfb (5 sts)
Repeat increase section rows 1 and 2 eight more times (21 sts)
Ear Flap Row 1: K3, BO 16 sts, k last st
Ear Flap Row 2: K2, CO 16 sts using backwards loop cast on, k3
Work even in garter stitch for 56 rows.
Ear Flap Row 1: K3, BO 16 sts, k last st
Ear Flap Row 2: K2, CO 16 sts using backwards loop cast on, k3
Decrease Section Row 1: Knit all sts
Decrease Secton Row 2: K2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog
Repeat decrease section rows 1 and 2 eight more times (3 sts)
First i-cord section. After the last decrease row, do not turn work. Slide sts to the right-hand needle and bring yarn around the back of the sts and knit 3 sts. Again, do not turn work. Slide sts to right-hand needle and bring yarn around the back of the sts and knit 3 sts. Repeat until i-cord is approx 6 inches, then bind off. Weave in ends. Tie a knot at the end of the i-cord.
At the opposite end of the work – the CO edge – pick up 3 sts. Slide to the right-hand needle and bring yarn around the back of the stsa nd knit 3 sts. Repeat as for the first i-cord.
Weave in all ends and block.
