Notes

The motif charts for the socks came from Meg Swansen’s Knitting (the Blue and Cream Stocking from the back of the book) and from Lizbeth Upitis’s Latvian Mittens (chart 124 on p. 86). I kind of went off-road after that. Want to make a pair? More-like-guidelines are at http://which-chick.livejournal.com/353249.html.

It says I used four balls of yarn, but folks looking to duplicate or knock-off these might use a bit more than that depending on the size of the legs they are knitting for. I’m 5’7” and 160 lbs, if that helps anyone.

The fact that these have a fan club sort of shocks me. Everybody I know in the real world thinks I’m daft for putting this amount of time into a pair of socks.

Update Jan 2015: The socks are about seven years old. Yes, I do wear them, about fifteen times a year but more if it gets super cold. They still look good (some small amount of pilling on the heels) and have held up well. I am immensely pleased with them and am now plotting another pair of colorwork knee socks because I want some more.
