Notes

04-07-2018

I bought the KP Sipalu bag kit for this project because I loved the colorways. The kit uses Palette fingering weight yarn. The colors are gorgeous, but the yard is terrible. I will never use this yarn again. It is loosely plied as other people have said. It also easily splits and tangles (a nightmare in this project) and is very difficult to work with. I do not recommend this yarn.

I am making the light center colorway.
The side panel which begins this project is only 17 rows and each row has 240 stitches. It is knit flat. It was so difficult to follow the pattern accurately, I had to rip back several times. And there are still errors. I just gave up and soldiered on and hope that they won’t be noticeable since this is the side panel and I am mostly correct.

Others have suggested doing a steek for the side panel and I wish I had thought of that. It’s a great idea.

I enjoyed doing the welt. It is a nice transition to the front panel for the bag. The front panel is worked in the round. The side panel represents three sides and you cast on the fourth side. Pattern and knitting is much better now that I have begun knitting in the round.

I have enjoyed doing the main segment of the bag. First time I have worked from outside in. I used the magic loop and have really enjoyed working in Fair Isle. My speed is still a little too slow - still trying to get the hang of 2 threads continental style. I hope to work on speed for the next side.

The directions are very scant. Hard to follow in some places.
