I started with a J hook as suggested by the pattern, and got about 7 rows. Then I draped it around my neck and whoa, it looked way too big. So I started over, this time trying to match the gauge in the pattern (which, you know, IS important with clothing!) The pattern says the foundation chain is 14” long, and I got about that with an H hook. So that’s what I’m using. My gauge might have relaxed a bit too as I went along, but I just tried it on with four rows left on the body and it looks pretty good! So I’m pleased so far.
I was unsure if I’d need to make the 55” size or the 60” size, so I read the instructions for both. I am concerned that the 60” size might have errata, because the way it is written I don’t see how you will get the last set of repeats in it needed to bring it up to size at the yoke. There IS some errata for Cinnabar, the base pattern this one is worked off of, but none of the errata addresses the 60” size….
Happily, the 55” size worked for me! But I do caution those who are doing the 60” size to read carefully and count your pattern repeats at the end of the yoke to make sure you have enough.
As I write this, I have four rows left on the body, according to the pattern. I thought it might not be long enough but it looks like it will be good. It’ll be a shorter cardigan than I’ve been wearing lately but I think it might be flattering enough… we’ll see.

I have finished the number of rows called for in the body, and tried it on and modeled it for mom. She said it needs two more rows to lengthen it. I think she’s right. Not looking forward to the additional work, but it will look nicer when done, so on I go.

Finished this late last night! Hurray!
I don’t know if it was something I did wrong or something wrong with the pattern, but when it came time to do the sleeves, I had two V stitches next to each other in each sleeve. This really messed me up on the first sleeve. I didn’t know how to handle it, so put shells in both… but then for the final border I had to fudge an extra scallop to make it look okay.
For the second sleeve I figured out how to work evenly around, but it required starting my round with the opposite stitch than what I expected, IIRC. This also did mean that I had at least one V in a V for the first round, but the rest of the round worked.
There’s definitely mistakes in my stitching, besides these. There were some points in the body where I got off track and did the wrong stitch pattern. Still, the final result is rather nice in spite of the mistakes, and I’m pleased!
