I wanted to make a pair of socks for myself, and since I wear flip-flops A LOT, I wanted to make tabi socks. And since I hadn’t done a toe-up sock yet, I wanted to do that too. Found the perfect pattern.
I had some trouble w/the cast on, and didn’t do a very neat job on the toe and toe cap, so I started over. Then I started over again because it still wasn’t nice and neat enough for me. And again. And again. Finally got something that meets my standards. Yay me.
Bored already, I decided I wanted to do a pretty lace pattern, so after the split toe part of Lickety Split, I stopped following that pattern, and started following the Fish Scale lace pattern from Red Dwarf Socks. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/red-dwarf-socks.
Not much done yet, and I’m already getting bored with the lace pattern. My intolerance for repetition is detrimental to my mental health.

Have now moved onto, and struggled with, the short row heel from the Lickety Split pattern. It couldn’t have been more clearly written, but I still managed to get off by one stitch. The gods don’t want us to be perfect, right? I’m leaving it as is, and moving on…
Decided to do the same lace pattern on the back of the leg. I am now officially over my dread of repetition and loving the stitch pattern.
Finished the first sock! I used the sewn method to make sure that my bind off was loose enough, and I may have made it too loose. It looks a little frilly. But I’m leaving it for now and starting the second sock. (I did go back and redo the ribbing. I found I wanted it tighter. And used Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off, http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall09/FEATjssbo.php Much better!)
BTW: I’ve given the pattern a “difficult” rating only because I really struggled with the provisional cast on for the toes, and the short row shaping on the heel. If I make this sock pattern again, I will use a different cast on.
